Hempfield Upends Cedar Crest 51 – 25

The Black Knights continued their successful week by defeating the Falcons on Wednesday night. Tonight’s match may have lacked the drama of Monday night’s win over Solanco, but is equally as important to the Knights on their quest for the Section 1 title. They moved to 4-0 in Section, and currently stand alone in First Place. With a win on Thursday night  against an always tough McCaskey team, they will remain in the driver’s seat toward that goal of winning the Section 1 title.

Jordan Ortiz got a forfeit in the opening match of the night at 182 pounds, that was coupled with giving a forfeit to Cedar Crest at 195. With the score knotted at 6, Tommy Bennett scored  a quick 52 second fall against his opponent at 220 pounds. Joey Goodhart followed that victory up by accepting a forfeit at HWT. At 106 pounds Brandon Hartman picked up a big win by pinning his opponent in just 42 seconds. By winning 4 of the first 5 matches, Hempfield led 24 to 6, and never looked back. Aidyn Miller at 120 pounds locked up an early cradle and pinned his man in 30 seconds. Following David Good’s win by forfeit at 126 pounds, the score stood at 36 to 10, Hempfield. The 26 point margin stood up as the difference in the match as the teams split the last 6 matches. A couple of highlights in those matches were Tyler Reber at 152, also picking up a first period Fall in 1:35. At 170 pounds, Brady Mathias, found himself in a deep early match hole, 6-2, against Welch from Cedar Crest. But as Brady commonly does, he slowly began his comeback with a beautiful takedown, and followed that up with 3 more takedowns throughout the match, and pulled out the 12 to 9 victory, putting the final points on the scoreboard for the Knights. If you are keeping score at home, coupled with his 18 points he scored in Monday’s match, that makes 30 points in two matches, for the ever improving  Mathias! A fine exclamation point to the solid team victory tonight.
